LONG BEACH CONTAINER TERMINAL CHOOSES N4 AS THE BRAINS OF ITS FULLY AUTOMATED TERMINAL OPERATIONS

“NAVIS IS A VERY SHARP COMPANY AND I DON'T SAY THAT LIGHTLY… I THINK THEY'RE WAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE COMPARED TO THE OTHER TOS PROVIDERS AND I DON'T THINK ANYONE'S GOING TO WIND UP CATCHING THEM FOR QUITE SOME TIME. I'M GLAD THAT WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR OUR TERMINAL OPERATING SYSTEM -- NAVIS.” - Anthony Otto, President of Long Beach Container Terminal

OVERVIEW

Long Beach Container Terminal is the first fully-automated container terminal in the United States and the cleanest and most environmentally-friendly terminal in the world. Navis N4 serves as the brains of the automated operations at LBCT, controlling when the container is supposed to move, which piece of equipment is going to move it and where it’s going to be moved.

The terminal features a model zero-emission yard, replacing gear run by diesel with gear powered by electricity and low-emission fuels. It is completely remotely operated with electric gantry cranes. LBCT also features adjacent rail lines that will eliminate thousands of truck trips from the ports on through the warehouse network of the Inland Empire and beyond.

LBCT is comprised of 105 acres and eight structures and located adjacent to a deep water turning basin on Pier F. Berths 6-10 feature 2700 feet of berth line with at least a 55-foot water depth alongside the dock, the deepest dredged dockside of any US Pacific Coast port, allowing LBCT to accept the world’s largest mega-vessels. LBCT’s proximity adjacent to the southerly end of Long Beach Freeway between the Harbor and San Diego freeways provides fast and convenient routes for trucks to get to the greater Los Angeles area.
